INSTANT REPLAY- Storyville and IJM

From the Instant Replay blog, written by marcusr on 01-07-2009

Sean Cooper caught up with Chad Turnbull to talk about how a small coffee company is making a big impact for justice in the world by partnering with the International Justice Mission (IJM).
God calls us to pursue justice in the world (Micah 6:8). We can use our resources to carry this out no matter how big or small.

Unity Among Brothers

From the Longwood, Mount Dora blog, written by Bill Chapman on 30-06-2009

Bill Chapman, Jack Terman and Micah Bradford take a pause from their labor

Bill Chapman, Jack Terman and Micah Bradford take a pause from their labor

God sure is keeping the Mount Adorables busy this summer! On July 18th we will be painting the home of a single-parent family in our community, and with a project such as that the prep work is considerable. So on Tuesday June 30th a handful of Northlanders gathered at the home to cut back bushes and pressure clean the house. Pictured here are the three men who did the work. Notice that each of us is part of a different generation: I was born in the 1960’s, Jack in the 20’s, and Micah in the 90’s. Brothers in the same Lord who came together to serve Jesus by serving this family. Jack cut back the shrubs, I loaded the clippings in the truck, and Micah pressure cleaned. After a couple of hours we stopped to rest awhile and began trading stories. Jack shared an experience in Europe during World War II. I described my call to vocational ministry. Micah spoke of school, sports and a time when the Lord protected him from certain disaster. We prayed together, we joked around a bit and we enjoyed the unity of fellowship and service.I love the unity that grows up when Christians serve together. It’s one thing to come together for our mutual benefit - fellowship among believers provides that. And it is another deeper thing to come together to meet the needs of others. No one expresses this better than God Himself, as He does in Psalm 133:1. “How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity!”. Good and pleasant indeed.

Are you connected to other believers in Christ? Is Psalm 133:1 simply a concept for you or are you experiencing it now? There are ample opportunities in Mount Dora and at all Northland Worship Sites to experience unity in fellowship and serving: may I suggest that you ask the Lord where He wants to plug you in, and then ask fellow Northlanders to point you in the right direction. A few unity venues are advertised right on this page; many more can be found in the back of the Northland News. And if you would like to help out with this painting project on Saturday July 18th, just contact Jack Terman at jterman@cfl.rr.com or 407-782-3944. Bring your painting equipment and an extension ladder if you have one. Jesus prayed “that [His people] would be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you” (John 17:20). Pursue and experience this unity with your Northland family. Your life will never be the same!

Made Perfectly, and Disabled

From the Access Ministries, News-Northland blog, written by Robert Andrescik on 29-06-2009

For people of faith living with disability, an equal place in church doesn’t mean just wheelchair ramps. They struggle with their fellow believers’ inability to understand them, and with their own trouble understanding why God made them the way they are. But instead of asking, “Why me?” many say, “Why not me?”

Northland @ Oviedo: In the Loop (July calendar, etc)

From the Oviedo, Worship Sites blog, written by Jeremy Jobson on 28-06-2009

Alright not sure if you are getting all that we have going on out here in Oviedo but our little congregation is busy serving, connecting, worshipping, fellowshippping and just plain old having FUN!!!

The best way to stay in the know is to be on the email list with Amanda Hartley our site coordinator (amanda.hartley@northlandchurch.net). She has semi-weekly emails that go out Wed or Thurs (really nice and pretty too!) with the happenings out in Oviedo the next 2 weeks or so. In that email she always has a link to this BLOG page as well as a reminder of our AWESOME FACEBOOK PAGE, just search for and become friends/fan of Northland at Oviedo!

There are also emails that are more specific with the teachings and goings on for Student Ministries and another one for Children’s Ministries. If that is of interest all you need to do is get on the email list for Michelle Smith our Children’s Ministry Coordinator (michelle.smith@northlandchurch.net) OR Erica Emler our Student Ministry Coordinator (erica.emler@northlandchurch.net)!

Get in the know, be involved, stay connected or as we always say out here in Oviedo, “BE A PART OF IT”

Here is the July Calendar, print it or pick it up on Sunday!  july-2009-oviedo

Issue 26: Spread out OR piled up?

From the Oviedo, Worship Sites blog, written by Jeremy Jobson on 28-06-2009

I just finished reading Crazy Love by Francis Chan with our small group. We did the small group study video segments (available for any of you who are interested) and discussion questions along with the reading. Maggie and I read the book last fall and it has been a catalyst for many conversations in our home, with our friends and family, and in the various ministry settings we find ourselves in, ever since. This group took a while to finish the small group study because we occasionally did fellowship gatherings, served together and have been preparing to leave for a mission trip next week to Swazi, South Africa. It has been a wild ride (more…)

Issue 25: Servant Spotlight: Marianne Testa

From the Oviedo, Worship Sites blog, written by Jeremy Jobson on 28-06-2009

We have not done one of these for a few months and there could not be a better person or reason to bring it back. We often serve alongside someone, receive communion or prayer from them, even say hi and shake their hand but we don’t really get a chance to know them. I have often said that one of the great tragedies of modern Christianity is the lack of opportunity and boldness to share our stories with one another in a way that reveals God at work in and through our lives. But, every once in a while (more…)

Issue 24: Luke 14:31 Project (cont’d)

From the Oviedo, Worship Sites blog, written by Jeremy Jobson on 28-06-2009

by Maggie JobsonLast week Jeremy wrote about the “In Her Shoes” Tea that took place Saturday May 30th. The tea culminated with the call to put on an event for women in our community that find themselves in hard times. Thirty one women signed up to be on a team coming together this summer to plan and implement the vision we have received from Luke 14:13 (please go read).

Jesus Himself laid this idea of serving the least of these as a basic quality of those who would follow Him. So too the Old Testament is filled with commands of this nature. Isaiah 58 is one of these places in Scripture where we hear the voice of God the Father telling His people what it is He asks of them. (more…)

The Acts of the Holy Spirit - He sets us free!

From the Mount Dora blog, written by Bill Chapman on 23-06-2009

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” John 8:36

The Northland Mount Dora Men’s Group has been studying the Acts of the Holy Spirit for nearly a year now. This morning (June 23rd 2009) we gathered to consider how the Spirit of God sent Paul and his missionary team to bring the freedom of Christ to the city of Philippi. What follows is the study we worked through. Feel free to use it as a guide to help you work through Acts 16. And may the Holy Spirit lead you to greater and greater measures of freedom in the Son!
